Faculty of the Bologna node have long-standing experience in postgraduate bioinformatics education at the University of Bologna.
International Master programmes
From the International Master in Bioinformatics to the International Master in Molecular and Computational Biology
Node faculty were part of the teaching staff of the International Master Program in Bioinformatics at the University of Bologna, and currently participate in the Bioinformatics curriculum of the International Master in Molecular and Computational Biology, contributing courses on machine-learning methods for protein structure/function prediction, genomic variant interpretation, and computational analysis of biological sequences and structures.
Bologna Winter School
Bologna Winter School (BWS)
The same faculty actively organise the Bologna Winter School, a long-running international training event on computational biology and bioinformatics hosted by the University of Bologna. The most recent edition, the 27th Bologna Winter School — “Bioinformatics and Rare Diseases”, was held online (12–20 February 2026) and organised jointly with the International Master in Bioinformatics, the Alma Climate Interdepartmental Centre, the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology of the University of Bologna, ELIXIR-IIB (Istituto Italiano di Bioinformatica), the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SIB), and the Accademia delle Scienze dell'Istituto di Bologna. The School focused on computational approaches to RNA biology, including structural and functional prediction methods relevant to rare diseases, with contributions from international faculty and a dedicated student corner for participant presentations.
Programme, faculty and application details for the latest edition are available at biocomp.unibo.it/~school2026, with the full series archive at biocomp.unibo.it/winterschools.html.
